Our Story

Welcome To Pfendler Ranches

Raising cattle is a century old Pfendler family tradition. It started with David C. Pfendler of Lafayette, Indiana.

David’s family raised angus steers and grew corn. Upon receiving his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 1932, he returned to the family farm, operating it successfully through the peak of the Great Depression.

Eventually, David would leave full time farming and become a faculty member at his alma mater. He retired as the Associate Dean of Agriculture and the namesake for the agricultural building.

He instilled in his children, from an early age, the importance of agriculture, careful stewardship, and respect for the land.

Decades later, in the spirit of that tradition, his son Peter Pfendler began breeding horned Hereford cattle on Sonoma Mountain. Peter believed in the timeless elegance and docility of the Hereford breed, and stopped at no length to produce the very best for himself and the breed.

Since then, we have carefully stewarded that vision – it is the guiding star of our operation.

The history of the Hereford breed is one which is rich in our family and one which we see as constantly evolving. We pride ourselves on integrity, a mission of progress, and the success of our customers in the industry. We sell bulls through private treaty year round.
